Alpine forests are present in Pakistan in shrub formations. These are 1m to 2 m high and extend above the sub-alpine forests. The genera present are  Salix, Lonicera (Phut), Berberis (Sumbul, Sumblue), Cotoneaster with Juniperus and occasionally Rhododendron or Ephedra. The sub-alpine forests are also present in Pakistan. They consist of evergreen conifers and broad leave trees. They occur throughout the Himalayas. Alpine shrubs are found above the Himalayas.
