What Are The Essential Items Needed To Be A Proofreader?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The main items needed for setting yourself up as a proofreader include:

A large desk – this is useful for spreading out your work, as proofreaders usually have lots of sheets to go through. It is better to work in natural light, so making sure that the desk is in a well-lit room is a good idea.

A suitable chair – a comfortable chair prevents back strain and will allow a proofreader to work for long periods.

Coloured pens – red, blue and black pens are the main colours that are used in proofreading.

Pencils – in proofreading, pencils are used to query any words that the proofreader is unsure about.

Good quality lamp – this is needed for working at night.

A telephone – a telephone is important, as it is needed so that you can receive any offers of work, and you can make calls to any clients if you have any questions.

A computer – a computer is needed for typing up letters, writing up invoices, and typing up query sheets from proofs etc.

Reference books – reference books are extremely useful for proofreaders who wish to work in a particular area, such as medicine.
