Why Is My 5 Month Old Female Rabbit Chasing & Mounting My 3 Month Old Female Rabbit? They Are Not Spayed & Normally Comfortable, Groom & Love Each Other. Why Is The Sudden Change?

2 young female rabbits that are normally loving, attentive & bonded to each other. Well all of a sudden the 5 month old unspayed female rabbit is chasing & mounting the 3 month old unspayed female rabbit. Why? Is the 5 month old going through puberty or trying to establish dominance? Will the younger one act this way when she goes through puberty?

Cows will do the same thing. when a cow is "in heat" another female can smell it and they will mount.

I think you are correct in regards to the dominance idea.
While I am not familiar with rabbits, this occurs frequently in dogs. Whether male of female, one seeks dominance over the other. Strange way to show dominance though, don't you think?
