    The most popular translation of "seize the day" in Latin is "carpe diem", which comes from a Latin poem by Horace. Strictly speaking, a more literal translation of "carpe diem" would be "pluck the day" as "carpe" refers to plucking, as in the plucking of fruit.

    As I say though, "carpe diem" is used more often than not and is very popular, even for tattoos! This site here has one that is done in ambigram form (it's the one in the middle of the top row).
