You can't scan a document in Microsoft Word 2003. You need a scanning software like mirascan to scan a document. However, you can save a document in Microsoft word and can retrieve it as many times as you like.

Please keep in mind that you can't make changes in a scanned document in Microsoft Word 2003. You need Photo editing software. Secondly you can use Microsoft Office Document Imaging to convert the image text into Word format. To get help on doing this, click here

Many people just don't bother to tell you but of course you can, indirectly- this is how?
Scan your document as jpeg or tif
click www.onlinedocumentconversion.com , upload your jpeg or tif document,
convert to doc or RTF. Resultant word document will look same as original scanned document.
