    Tinfoil barb is a tropical freshwater fish. It belongs to the Barbonymus genus of the Cyprinidae family. Originally named Barbus Schwanenfeldii by Pieter Bleeker in 1853, this species is found in the Mekong and Chao Phraya basins of Sumatra and Thailand, Malayan Peninsula and Borneo.

    Large Tinfoil barb are golden yellow of silver in colour with its caudal fin blood red or orange and dorsal fin red. Usually, its 14 cms in length with a lifespan of eight to ten years. The tinfoil barb prefer to stay in water with strong currents. This species usually is peaceful and lives most of its life at the bottom or at the mid sea level of the water. Tinfoil barb is useful in subsistence farming and in commercial aquaculture.
