DNA stands for Deoxyribo Nucleic Acid. It is a nucleic acid that takes the genetic information in the cell and is capable of self-replication and synthesis of RNA". It consists of two long chains of nucleotides attached into a double helix and connected by hydrogen bonds linking the complementary bases adenine and thymine. This sequence of nucleotides determines hereditary characteristics.

Chromosomes pesent inside the nucleus of the cell are composed of DNA. It is  very fined and tightly coiled and its size can stretch upto a metre. Researchers say that DNA is actually a code which are innumrable and are present as functional units. These functional units work as genes which detect how a persons structure is made of and what qualities have been inherited.
