 Florida is a large state and has a correspondingly large number of airports - 19 commercial passenger service airports, 20 reliever airports and 60 general aviation facilities. Florida's airports vary widely in terms of their size and role. Miami International Airport is the busiest commercial passenger airport, followed by Orlando International, Fort Lauderdale International and Tampa International. Palm Beach International is one of South Florida's leading airports. Jacksonville International and Southwest Florida International are among the fastest growing in the United States. Miami is the leader in terms of air freight, handling 73 percent of all Florida air cargo.

Other commercial airports in Florida include: Daytona Beach International, Key West International, Panama City/Bay County International, Gainesville Regional, Melbourne (Fla) International, Okaloosa, Naples (Fla) Municipal, Tallahassee Regional, Orlando Sanford International, Pensacola Regional, Sarasota Bradenton International and St Petersburg-Clearwater International.

In 1997, Florida's 13 largest airports handled 2.5 million aircraft operations, involving105 million passengers and 2.4 million metric tons of freight.
