What Does Dorian Mean?

The Dorian's were considered to be a part of ethnic population; they were a part of the population which the Greeks divided into Aeolians, Dorian's and Ionians. These three were known as Ethnic communities. The Dorian's or any of the other two communities were separated from each other in context to Society, Language and Historical Tradition. The Dorian community had actually originated from the northern eastern regions of Greece, also from Epirus and regions of Macedonia.

However due to some unseen circumstances the Dorian's had to move to the south of Peloponnese and settle in certain Aegean islands. Some of them also moved to the coast of Asia Minor. According to a mythology the Dorian's had an eponymous ruler called Dorus who was the son of Hellen.

The Dorian Greeks or Dorian was one of the cultural populations in which the historic Greeks considered themselves distributed. They were illustrated by the means of language, society and historic practices.

The male's name Dorieus, obtains a short mention in the Linear B tablets at Pylos, one of the areas attacked and subjected by the Dorians. Pylos tablet Fn867 documents it in the dative case as do-ri-je-we, Doreiwei, which is a third or consonant declension noun with shoot ending in w.

The Dorians are much talked about in passing by many writers and inscription but the two main traditional writers to share their origins are Herodotus and Pausanias. The traditions of the Spartan condition and its well-known individuals are detailed vividly in famous writers like Plutarch.
