How Does The Rate Of Cooling Affect The Crystal Size Of A Rock?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The quicker something cools, the smaller the crystals will be. This is because to form larger crystals, the atoms need to aline themselves, and when they aren't given much time to aline, they are stuck and haven't alined in time to form a big crystal, so we're left with lots of small ones.
