  • How many liters in a kilogram?
One liter of water is equal to one kilogram, and this is equal to one cubic centimeter of water. This is only accurate when the water is at exactly four degrees Celsius. The water will expand if it is any hotter and the measurement would not be accurate.

It is not possible to convert other substances from liters to kilograms because these are two different forms of measurement. Kilograms are used to measure weight but liters measures volume. A liter of tar, for example, would weigh considerably more than a liter of water and this is why the conversion is not possible.

  • Kilograms
Kilograms are used to measure relatively light objects. A set of scales can be sued to measure kilograms. Kilograms are part of the metric system and this is the standardized system of measurement through the vast majority of the world. It is simple and easy to use and it makes measuring simple when most people use the same form of measurement. It is a decimalized system of measurement that was first used in France in 1799.

The US remains one of the only countries that is yet to adopt the metric system. The US generally used the imperial system but also uses a simple form of measurement when cooking called 'cups'. There is a standardized cup size and this can also be found in quarter cups and half cups and these are used for recipes: 'half a cup of flour', for example, may be used in a recipe.

  • Liters
Liters are a unit of volume to measure liquids. The liter is also based upon the metric system and this is why it is possible to say that one liter of water weighs exactly one kilogram.
