This is my problem too (I offered a similar question on here about two weeks ago).  I finally went to GNC and got a bottle of Melatonin 3 (3mg).  These are the fast-acting ones that help you to fall asleep, the other ones are slow-release.  Once I take one, I lay down and wait for it to start calming my thoughts and body down, then either concentrate on prayer, or play a game in my head (I found the game here on BlurtIt's Delirious Ditties Group).  You give yourself 4 categories (city, meal, dessert, and friend to bring along), and start going thru the alphabet.  I haven't made it past "E" yet!  Like you, I take all the days problems, future problems, situations, etc to bed with me (mentally), and then my mind keeps me awake until the wee hours.  These pills are vegetarian based with no harsh additives or chemicals.  I hope this suggestion will help you out.

One possibility is sleep aids, but if you are anything like me they don't do diddly squat b/c your mind still races. A lot of times what I'll do is set some music going, usually an alternative rock where I find the singers voice soothing, or if I'm in the mood a gentler sound. I set a number of songs to play for a certain amount of time and if I'm not asleep by the time the music finishes, I get up. You'll never get to sleep if you stay tossing and turning in bed. Don't do anything that might cause you to be upset before you go to sleep b/c you'll never get to sleep if you're upset about something. If my mind is racing, I try to set myself up in a pleasant daydream (I say daydream b/c you're not technically asleep). If you focus your thoughts onto something specific, it'll be easier for your mind to stop racing. Also, on the outside remedy front, the only thing I've found that helps my insomnia is apple cider vinegar. I don't know why, but it works. It usually takes a couple of days and it incrementally helps, but I take a tablespoon in a glass of orange juice at night whenever I go through insomniac periods. Also, if you have a tendency to get leg cramps at night (something I find in a lot of ppl goes hand-in-hand with insomnia and racing thoughts) this prevents those as it balances out your potassium levels. Hope these help out. - KB

Sometimes I have this problem. I usually read or watch tv until I'm really tired and I fall asleep really quick.
