How Do You Use The Thermometer?

A thermometer is used to take the body temperature. Here is one common way in which you can use the thermometer:

• Shake the thermometer until it shows 95.9 degrees, if it is a mercury thermometer. If you are using a digital thermometer, simply turn it on.
• Insert the thermometer under the tongue, in your mouth.
• Keep the thermometer under the tongue for three to five minutes if it is a mercury based thermometer. If you are using the digital thermometer, wait till the thermometer shows that it is time to read the temperature.
• If it is a mercury thermometer, read the temperature where the trail of mercury ends. If it is a digital thermometer, simply read what is given on the display.
