How Circular Does Earth Orbit The Sun?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

None of the major planets have exactly circular orbits, and the amount by which they deviate from a perfect circle is referred to as their 'eccentricity', with a perfect circle having the value of 0 (zero).

Mercury has the highest eccentricity (it used to be Pluto before it was downgraded from full planetary status) at 0.21.

Going from highest to lowest, (to 2 decimals rounded up) Earth would be 6th at 0.17 with only Neptune and Venus having orbits more circular.
