In olden times (before 600 B.C.), people in parts of Western Europe considered rabbits to be lucky because of their belief that spirit inhabited their bodies. Some of them even thought that man was borne out of select animals like rabbits. The early European Celts grew on the belief that spirits harboured the body of the rabbits because of the fact that these animals spend maximum time in underground burrows. They assumed that rabbits communicated with numinta, the underground spirits when they were closely confined in their burrows.
Also rabbits known to be quite active in mating, were revered by the Celts. Rabbits were looked upon as symbols of libido, fertility, health and abundance. In other words, every part of the rabbit was considered and that included its foot too!
