Unfortunately it is true and we do shrink as we get older. We tend to experience several losses as we get older. We lose our hair, our hearing, and at least some of our memory, so it is only natural really that we lose some of our height too!
The decline in height usually first starts to happen at the age of forty and we tend to lose around half an inch ever decade. It is possible for the shrinking to increase at a faster rate once we reach the age of seventy. Usually shrinking does not affect our health but it can cause some people to have a severe 'hunch back' position which can be uncomfortable to live with.
Overall it is possible to slow down the shrinking process by doing posture exercises and keeping the bones as strong as possible. Yoga tends to really help as does Tai Chi. So, you cannot stop shrinking completely, however you can slow it down!
