1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Brett Helquist is the illustrator of the Series of Unfortunate Events series. He was born in Ganado, Arizona and achieved a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts at the Brigham Young University. His work has appeared in the New York Times and Cricket (a children's magazine).

His illustrations for the Series of Unfortunate Events books have appeared in calendars, on the audiobooks and much more.

Helquist has created illustrations for Chasing Vermeer, The Wright 3, Screaming Mummies and the Doghouse of Doom, The Odorous Adventures of Stinky Dog to name a few. He has written and illustrated his own book called Roger, the Jolly Pirate, which was published in 2004.

Helquist had a distinctive style in the first few Unfortunate Events books. He used a style similar to crossing hatching, which became less obvious and more detailed in the later books. He produces illustrations for the interior of the books as well as the cover art.
