How Can I Deal With People Staring At Me Because I Have A Birthmark On My Face?

I have a large birthmark on my face and it causes me a lot of embarrassment when people stare or make comments about it behind my back. Does anyone out there have a similar problem and recommend any ways of dealing with it?

    Hi eskimoomin

You should check out a site called iFace, iface.org.uk, not sure how old you are but it's aimed at young people aged 11-21 affected by disfigurement of the face and body.

Some people's views on exactly your question here:

It's tough to tell a person's  age on Blurt-it and you have no bio yet to clue me in.  I have a personal friend with a permanent scar on his  face and he holds the respect of many people besides myself.  His character in conjunction with his skills makes him a valuable person to know. Sure I see the scar-but the person behind it renders it virtually invisible. May I suggest a Mel Gibson movie "The Man without a Face".  He plays a teacher in this drama but if I knew him personally I'd befriend him in an instant because of WHO he is.  If you are rejected by someone because of a scar, you are NOT the one who 'really' has the scar. Use it- as a means to identify true quality in friends that have their 'vision' of others in perspective.

Don't let the birth mark make you who you are. I personally would stare right back at the person staring at me and let them see how it feels. Maybe even tell them to take a picture it would last longer. Lol Don't let them get you down!

You should not be bothered about people staring at you. There are people who stare at every other person who passes by them. All you have to do is to look confident, and pretend as if you do not care. Even if you think your birthmark looks ugly, it does not give anybody the right to comment on it.

There's 2 solutions to your problem you can:
A: Put some makeup on it
      or
B: Tell them to mind their own business!

Or if it's on your forehead ask your parents to let you grow a fringe or have one styled for you for now wear a hat!!!!!!!!!!
