As this is the end of June, I'd say you are not off to a very good start.  In a few days you will owe for 2 months and are in grave danger of being evicted.  That's how it looks, with only the info you've given.  You don't say what state you are in.  That matters.  Call Legal Aid if you are in the US there is usally one listed in the phone book.  You could also look under Tenant's Rights, or google.  You could check with an attorney - you're likely going to need one anyway.  Have you talked to the new management?  That would certainly be a good place to start.  If you've been there 2 years and until now paid on time they'd probably want to keep you.  Leaving owing a couple of months rent is not going to help you get a new place.  Most places run credit checks.  And by the way, in case you didn't know it, the rent usually goes up when a lease expires.  It's unfortunate, but that's what happens.
