How Can I Design A Vegetable Garden?

Answer Question

Designing a vegetable garden is great fun though requiring a fair amount of initial planning. Start with a list of your favorite vegetables and configure the plants to be grown as some plants grow well in combination while others do not. Also take in to consideration factors like the height of the plants grown, their root depth, the harvesting season and their ability to exist in a symbiotic relationship.

If one wants to grow a conventional outdoor vegetable garden then one would do well to design the garden in beds rather than in rows as this saves a lot of time and energy plus allows one to make optimum use of space employing different combinations. First and foremost one should look for a nice sunny spot preferable one in a north-south direction.

Then one should get to the task of raising the height of the bed which allows for good drainage while at the same time helps to keep the temperature to a harmonious level so vital in early spring. Parallel beds 6 feet in length and two feet across with some space in between for plant combinations are easy to manage and harvest.

Use a good mixture of soil that drains well as vegetable gardens need a fair amount of watering add proper amounts of fertilizers preferably organic based. Finally go ahead and plant that vegetable garden you have always wanted with a variety of vegetables to choose from like potatoes, beans, broccoli, tomatoes, onions, squashes, eggplants and artichokes.
