Can A Seemingly Healthy Wild Cat Carry Rabies?
My cousin is clawed by a seemly healthy wild cats. She had the rabies vaccine 11 months ago and her antibody measurement is at 2.2IU/ml at this point. She wants to know if she needs to take the vaccine again. Thanks.

Rabies is carried in the animals body fluids, like saliva. It is therefore usually passed on by biting, not scratching. However there is a small possibility that the cat could have recently licked it's foot, so there is a small chance of catching rabies. It is such a serious disease that advice from a doctor would be a very good idea.
An animal can appear healthy while carrying rabies because the illness can have a long incubation period before symptoms show.

Hi,
Many thanks for the answer. It is comforting to know that the chance she catches rabies is low. I know it's a hard question, but do you think she needs to get vaccines again in her case? She is a cancer patient and she is afraid that the vaccine will affect the medicine she is taking for fighting cancer.
Thanks again
John
