How Do I Tell If My Dog Has Eye Allergies?

I think my dog has allergies, his eyes get red and collect alot of gunk around them. What do you give a dog for allergies.

Usually they have a discharge in their eyes..could be light yellow. Or runny eyes...they will usually paw at their eyes.
