What Is Paranormal Romance?

           Paranormal romance is a subgenre in literature. It is a type of speculative fiction. Speculative fiction is defined as that type of fiction which asks the classic "What If" question and tries to answer it. It mixes romance and other themes such as fantasy, science fiction, horror, suspense with a scientific explanation to the happenings or events. Paranormal romances can also include those books where the main storyline is about the science fiction or fantasy based plot with a romantic sub plot.

           The paranormal romances need not be only about humans and can also be about vampires, shape shifters, elves, fairies etc. the themes in these books often consist of topics like ghosts, time travel, space travel, vampires etc and can also involve things like telepathy and other psychic abilities. It is believed that paranormal romances have their basis in Gothic fiction. One famous author of paranormal romance is Christine Feehan.
