Romania is not yet a member of the Schengen Zone and as such, national customs rule apply to all people entering or exiting the country, either by air, land or sea.

If you are departing Romania by air, through Henri Coanda International Airport in Bucharest, you must declare any Romanian national currency (the Lei) that you have on you, provided that the total cash amount on your person exceeds EUR 1000. Additionally, you must inform customs officials if you have more than EUR 10,000 on your person, or this amount in any other currency.

In terms of objects and merchandise, you must also declare if you are taking any precious artifacts out of the country, such as paintings or antiques that may form part of Romania's national heritage. Additionally, people travelling with more than 2 litres of alcohol, or more than 200 cigarettes must also submit a customs declaration form upon leaving Romania.
