How Do You Clean A Shotgun?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Shotguns are of several types including pump action, over and under, side by side, single barrel, lever action and rare combinations of several barrels and calibres. The purpose of cleaning a shotgun is to clean its barrel and not for cleanliness. A shotgun generally firs shells that contain a number of pebble or ball bearing type lead shots. After a shell is fired and the casing removed it is not improbable to observe some shot particles sticking to the inside of the barrel. This happens because the shell fires a number of shots forward and a few get deflected or trapped in the barrel. Barrel cleaner rods which generally consist of three sections have to be screwed together; a spiked swab of soft metal bristles is attached to the front, oiled with gun oil and run several times through the barrel's length. The other sections of the gun can also be cleaned with light film oil after disassembling the gun.
