Pap smear test also called Papanicolaou test is screening used to diagnose premalignant and malignant cells in the cervix. Major cause of abnormal pap smear is HPV which is a transmitted sexually. Abnormal results of pap smear means some abnormal cells or growth which can develop in to cancerous cells. Abnormal pap smear with high capacity is related with ability of these cells to divide and grow. So, your pap smear result mean that your abnormal cells have high capacity to divide and grow to cause cervical cancer.
