If you are a trucker a short run is a one day transport back and fourth...a long run could be a few days on the road.

These are very relative terms.  "In the short run" could be days or weeks, "in the long run" could be months or years.

So you might hear someone say "In the long run, you'll make money in stocks.  In the short run, you might lose money." meaning there is no specific time frame, but a relative difference between them.

If you are talking about one certain objective or goal, then the short run is the what happens at the end of that certain time frame you have for that one objective.  The long run is the effects that your objective had over a longer period of time.
