It's temporary memory used to store data in an easier (quicker) place to get than where it is permanently. Using a hard drive as an example the cache is electronic vs on the disk itself so it's much faster to access. Hope this helps.

A cache is also a storage house for food and things up and away from animals that might be attracted to eating this food storage cache. It is still used in some areas of Alaska out in the villages.
