What Is Volvo Geartronic?

Geartronic is Volvos answer to or at least something similar to Porsche's Tiptronic transmission system. What does it mean? In simple terms it's an automatic gearbox that can be at the driver's discretion used as a manual one. The driver can override the system by switching gears manually.

Volvo offers this contraption only in vehicles at the higher end, specifically those that are offered in 5 and six speed options and that have an engine displacement greater than 2.4 liters.

The advantage of this system is that it gives the user an automatic machine that can be used as a manual one. The car will shift gears automatically when it feels the need. Its functioning is controlled by a microprocessor.

Though this feature is available in Volvo machines the company gets these transmissions from Japan. The Japanese firm Aisin AW manufactures these gizmos.
