Unsaturated essential fatty acids, linolenic acid and linoleic acid are what make up around 80% of oil in hemp seeds. Hemp seeds contain around 30-35% oil. These oils are not manufactured by the body, and the body needs to get them from external sources. Using certain oils may result in a deficiency of essential fatty acids or EFAs. But the continuous use of hemp seed has no such side effects. It is also a source of protein which makes up anywhere around 31% of its content. The proteins supplied by hemp seed are one part edestin protein and two parts albumin protein, both of which are highly digestible. It is more digestible than Soya bean and it is also rich in fibers.
It is used in processed foods such as milk, cheese, ice cream etc., in bird feeds and animal feeds. Its antimicrobial properties make it an excellent base for detergents, soaps and shampoos.
