Henry VIII's first wife was his brother's widow, Catherine of Aragon. They were married for about 18 years, but had only one daughter, Mary. It was expected that a son, not a daughter, would inherit the throne, and this was largely behind Henry's decision to divorce Catherine and marry wife number two, Anne Boleyn. They had another daughter, Elizabeth.

Anne Boleyn was executed on (probably) false charges of adultery, and Henry married Jane Seymour, who gave birth to Edward, the son he had longed for. However Jane died, and Henry took a fourth wife, Anne of Cleves. They divorced very quickly. Number five was Katherine Howard; she was also executed for adultery - the charges were probably true this time.

Henry's sixth and last wife was Katherine Parr, who outlived him. If  you click here you can find the dates and a brief biography of each wife.
