Leif Ericson was a popular explorer. He is considered as the first European who visited North America. In fact he established a Norse settlement at Vinland that is present day Newfoundland.
He was born in the year AD 970 in Iceland. His father was also an explorer. He set out in the year 1002 or 1003 with 35 crew members. He first reached present day Baffin Island and then he reached present day Labrador.
Then he reached Vinland and built a small settlement there.
