Gone with the wind was written by Margaret Mitchell. The book was written in 1936 and became even famous when it bagged the Pulitzer Prize in the year 1937. It is said to be one of the most popular hard back books of the time and even today, a tremendous amount of copies are sold every year. The protagonist is a young, rebellious lass; Scarlett O'Hara who is residing in Georgia. It speaks of her ties with her friends, and her family and the relationships she share with her various love interests and Rhett Butler in particular. The book is set against the backdrop of the American Civil War and the Reconstruction period, which Mitchell has effectively captured. It also explored themes of love, sexuality, survival, racial representations and feminism among others.
