Blackpool is in north-western England is a seaside town. It is part of Lancashire county. In its heyday, from 1900 to 1950's, it was the preferred annual holiday destination of working class people of northern England. With the arrival of cheap air travel, Blackpool went into a decline. The clientele now chooses the Mediterranean with its more reliable sunshine and competitive prices.

Today, Blackpool is visited mostly by weekend tourists and those staging 'hen' or 'stag' parties. Blackpool is also trying to transform itself as a casino resort for gambling in the U.K. It has also become a preferred destination of the gay community, with a number of clubs and hotels catering exclusively for them. Most of which are situated closer to North station than the seafront.
