How To Get My Car Out Of Park?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Many cars made after 1990 require stepping on the brake.  Try stepping harder if you aren't already doing that.  If the interlock is broken, you'll need a mechanic to fix it.

here's a response from another blurtit question on the same topic:

"It could be that you have a blown fuse, namely the "Shift-Lock" fuse (10A). You could check that.  Another possible cause could be the shift-lock sensor which is on the
back of the brake pedal. As you know, you have to apply the brake to
shift out of park, so you might need to try pushing harder on the brake
pedal.  Last thing you can try is using the button on the shifter, if that is
working. If that does work, you may have a problem with the shifter."
