What Causes A Car To Leak Coolant Out A Seal....and What Seal?

Answer Question

Automotive seals (also called gaskets) are thin pieces of material used to stop leaks from occurring in places where hoses are connected to the engine and radiator.  These seals are not made of metal, they are a softer material fills the gaps between the hose connection and the engine.  Since they are not metal they can wear out and/or tear as they age thus causing the problem you have.

Seals themselves are pretty cheap but it is often a real "dog" to install them - you have to take apart a ton of stuff to get to where they are in newer cars.  Check around and find out what different mechanics would charge to install new radiator seals, you might find a descent price if you spend some time looking.  Better get it fixed before winter thought.

According to my knowledge the only seal or gasket related to the cooling system outside the engine, is water pump gasket or the thermostat gasket, the gasket leaks due to aging wear or over pressure
