The RAM in a laptop may be located in differing places on different makes/models of laptop. The best way to find out how you are going to replace the old RAM is to look for the service manual from manufacturer's website to find out where the ram located Or google the same details with 'RAM location or RAM replacement'.
The key thing is that you purchase compatible RAM. The best way is to go to the website www.crucial.com and input the make and model of your laptop and it will tell you what type of memory that you need to buy for your model, they're not all the same!
Sometimes different speeds will match and sometimes they won't, so it's best to get the same speed, for example PC100 or PC133, or perhaps an older type.
Make sure that you are anti-statically protected before you remove or install it, in order to avoid an electrical shock.
