Only as an explorer in his accidental discoveries, after all, he did discover South America while trying to find a different passage to India.

I do not! Cristopher Columbus stumbled upon Mid America, looking for someplace else. He was cruel to the inhabitants of the lands he found, and extirminated at least one race of people from the face of the earth. He was an incompetent manager and Governor of the lands he was assigned. Like so many of his ilk, he hypocritically proclaimed Christianity, while enriching himself,  and exterminating native people. I believe he died an infamous death, a pauper & despised by the Gov't. That he initially served.
