What Are The Winds, The Dragons, The Flowers And The Seasons In Mah-Jong?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Each of the four winds, north, east, south and west, are represented on tiles in Mah-Jong. Each of the winds has four tiles to its name, totalling 16 wind tiles in all. The wind tiles have the Chinese character and the first letter of the English spelling of the word on each tile for easy recognition.

There are three dragon tiles in the game of Mah-Jong. These are red green and white in colour and each colour dragon is represented on four tiles. Sometimes the white dragon is represented by a blank tile which is outlined in either red or blue to prevent it being mistaken from a spare tile.

The flower and season tiles do not affect the game, but are bonus tiles. They are the most attractive and ornate tiles. There are four tiles of each flower; plum blossom, bamboo blossom, chrysanthemum and orchid. Their numbers are marked in green. Each of the four seasons are represented also, with their numbers marked in red. The pictures are randomly engraved, and different on every set.
