Jimmy Carter's youngest sister was Ruth Carter Stapleton. She was born on the 7th of August 1929 and died on the 26th of September 1983. The cause of death was Pancreatic Cancer. Her father, mother, brother and sister also died of the same disease.

She, Ruth, studied at the University of North Carolina located at Chapel Hill from where she got her Bachelor's degree in English. Later still she got a degree in theology. Ruth married Robert Thomas Stapleton in the year 1948. He was a successful veterinarian. Ruth was friends with Jimmy Carter's wife Rosalynn before they were married. In fact they were neighbours and it was Ruth who introduced the two and initially assisted them with darting.

Ruth had four children but suffered from depression and sought life outside of home. She is remembered as a Christian evangelist and was able to convert the famous pornographer Larry Flynt for a brief period of time to Christianity.
