The majority of websites providing MySpace backgrounds are free. You don't have to pay anything at all for using the backgrounds for your profile, and you can use as many as you like and keep them for as long as you like.
The only thing that these sites require is for you to keep a link on your profile which will direct other users to that particular site where you got your background from. Some of these links are can be removed even though the site asks users to keep the link, whilst other links cannot be removed. These links are either placed within the 'About Me' section of a MySpace profile, or they are placed in the top corner of a MySpace profile.
The reason why these sites provide free backgrounds is because they make their money through advertising. Because there is such as high demand for MySpace layouts, sites gain lots of visitors and so they charge companies to advertise on their site so that visitors will see the adverts.
