When Is The Best Time To Visit Nunavut?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The best time to visit Nunavut, Canada's arctic, is between April and September. It is generally best to avoid travelling to the region between November and late March, as temperatures are usually extremely cold and there are  few daylight hours.  For example, according to Environment Canada, the average daytime temperature in Iqaluit, Nunavut's capital, during late February is -24 C. At night, the average temperature is -32 C. Moreover, in December, there are nearly 24 hours of darkness.

April, however, is a great time to visit Nunavut in order to still catch the region in its winter beauty. There is much more sunshine in April and there is also a fresh blanket of snow covering the ground. This is the ideal time to go sledding or to head out on a snowmobile trip.

Tourists arriving in Nunavut during the summer months (July and August), can enjoy a number of summer activities, such as hiking, kayaking, fishing or even going on a cruise along the North West passage. Temperatures in July and August are usually around +10 C, but this does vary from one region to another and in some cases temperatures can soar to the high twenties.
