Huber Matos was the name of a Cuban revolutionary who effectively defeated and removed General Fulgencio Batista along with other revolutionaries like Fidel Castro and Che Guevara and others who were a part of the movement on the 26th of July. He was in opposition to Batista since the General's successful coup in the year 1952, which he considered as undemocratic, but he became more and more disapproving of the movement's swing towards Marxist ideology and the closing of alliances with the heads of the Communist Party of Cuba.
Matos had grave reservations about Fidel Castro, thinking of him as having dictatorial leanings. He was also increasingly cagey regarding Marxist principles being demonstrated by others. In the month of July, in 1959 he submitted his resignation letter to Castro as he was troubled by the direction in which the revolution seemed to be going.
