Why Won’t My Dog Relive Itself In Public?

As strange as it sounds, some dogs, especially young dogs, do seem to be particularly shy whilst out in public. They simply refuse to urinate or go to the toilet in any way until they are back home safely in their own garden. It could be that they are young and they have learned to go to the toilet in the garden and they think that it is the only place they should go. Or, they could be embarrassed to relieve themselves in public. As the dog gets older you should notice this behaviour stops and they will gain the confidence to relieve themselves whenever they need to whilst outside. There is nothing you can particularly do. Just be affectionate to your dog, do not put pressure on it to relieve itself and that way it will eventually learn to let go. It is all a matter of patience and allowing the dog to go to the toilet wherever they want to whilst outside.
