    The Chautauqua basically was popular educational movement held during the late 19th and early 20th century in United States of America. Chautauqua assemblies spread all over rural America till the mid 1920's. When Chautauqua came to town, it brought along entertainment for the entire community, with speakers, teachers, musicians, entertainers they also use to have specialist of the day.

    The first ever Chautauqua was organised by Methodist minister known as John H. Vincent along with businessman Lewis Miller in the year 1874. The assembly grew in reputation and were given a home at the campsite of the banks of Chautauqua Lake, located in New York, which over the period of years went on to become the Chautauqua institution. Lectures use to be the bastion of the Chautauqua.
