Bolting is a sifting, as of flour or meal. In Law terms, bolting is defined as private quarrelling of cases for practice by students, as in the Court.

Bolting is the enlargement of an extended stalk with flowers growing from within the chief stem of a plant. Bolting situation occurs in plants that are full-grown for their leaves, like cabbage, lettuce, spinach, and other leafy greens. Not only restricted to these plants, bolting can also apply to several of the brassicas that are grown-up for their flowers like broccoli and cauliflower, that propel up flowering stalks too early, producing heads that are smaller than preferred since the plant has not full-grown adequately to create a good sized crop.

Bolting usually appears in hot weather. Bolting is by and large promoted by the plant being exposed to extremely cold temperatures early in its life. Bolting is considered undesirable by commercial growers due to the bitter taste.
