When Was Jesus Proclaimed God?

Answer Question

5 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Jesus was never proclaimed as a God, which means he never said it himself that He is God. No where in the Bible it is mentioned that Jesus went around spreading the message that He is now God. It was people's faith and belief that made him God. No time, place or event has been mentioned in the Bible which says that from this day onwards, Jesus is God. Though, Jesus has always proclaimed that He was the son of God and later he had proclaimed that His father and He are one, which indirectly means that he is God.

I totally agreed with you until you said "he had proclaimed that His Father and He are one, which indirectly means that he is God." I do not believe that what he said directly or indirectly means that he is "God". One can see what he meant by saying that he was "one" with his FATHER [he being His SON] by comparing what he communicated [prayed] to his FATHER IN HEAVEN about his desire that the apostles and his disciples also being "one" with them in Yahchanan [John] 17:22. Note that his desire was that they also be 'one' "EVEN AS WE ARE ONE." Would this indicate that he was directly or indirectly desiring that the apostles and his disciples also be "God"? One can see by comparison that what he meant by being "one" with the Father was that they would all be in agreement and in unity [a unit is one] with Him, not that they all be "God". There are a number of other passages of them being of "one accord" (cf. Philippians 2;2; Acts 15:25; 4:24; 2:46; 2:1; 1:14). It is not difficult to ascertain from the study of Scripture that this unity and agreement was with Father Yahweh and His son Yahshua.

Jesus showed his miracles at the of 32 and his very 1st miracle was changing water to wine. He was told that by His father; that He and Holy spirit are one.

If you take a look at the Book of John 1:1, this passage certainly implies quite strongly that Christ was God. According to the verse: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." That might sound a little confusing, but what we are seeing here is the doctrine of the Trinity. According to this teaching, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are all one and the same, but they manifest themselves in different forms. A good way to think about this is to use an analogy involving water. Accordingly, God is like water, Christ is like ice (water in solid form) and the Holy Spirit is like steam, or vapor.

Jesus himself did imply that he was God. A good example is when Christ said that "I and the Father are one" (John 10:30). Again, we can see that the Bible is alluding to the doctrine of the Trinity. Jesus confirmed this belief on a number of occasions, implying and perhaps even proclaiming, that he was one with God. We can see this in John 14:6, where Christ stated that "if you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him."

It is certainly true that the Bible may at times seem hard to interpret and certain passages may appear unclear. Nevertheless, in terms of Christ and his teaching that he is God incarnate, there is little confusion. It is useful to remember that Christ's disciples and his followers saw in him God the Father, which means that they interpreted Christ's words as proclamations.

Okay, do not listen to people who say that Jesus never said that He was God. That's just stupid. What about ,"I and the father are one"? Or when he said ,"No one can come to the father except through me?" No man can block people from God if He isn't God!

Yahshua ["Jesus"] never said "I am God." You will not find such a quote made by Yahshua. That is a fact!

Before Jesus Came to Earth here are some reference to God as "I AM HE"

        Isaiah 41:4
Who has done this and carried it through, calling forth the generations from the beginning? I, the LORD -with the first of them and with the last—I Am He

        Isaiah 43:10
"You are My witnesses," declares the LORD, "and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I Am He. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me.

        Isaiah 43:13
Yes, and from ancient days I Am He. No one can deliver out of my hand. When I act, who can reverse it
        Isaiah 43:25
"I Am He who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more
        Isaiah 46:4
Even to your old age and gray hairs I Am He, I Am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.

        Isaiah 48:12
"Listen to me, O Jacob, Israel, whom I have called: I Am He; I am the first and I am the last
        Isaiah 51:12
"I Am He who comforts you. Who are you that you fear mortal men, the sons of men, who are but grass

After Jesus was born Jesus refers to Himself as "I Am He"… the very same description used by God.
        -Mark 13:6
Many will come in my name, claiming, 'I Am He,' and will deceive many
        -Luke 21:8
He replied: "Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I Am He,' and, 'The time is near.' Do not follow them.
        -John 13:19
"I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I Am He.
        -John 18:6
"I Am He," Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.) When Jesus said, "I Am He," they drew back and fell to the ground
[note: Why would they fall to the ground at His answer of "I Am He" unless they knew the significance of that statement?]
        John 18:8
"I told you that I Am He," Jesus answered. "If you are looking for me, then let these men go."

        Revelation 2:23
… Then all the churches will know that I Am He who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.

        What's your conclusion?

When Yahshua ["Jesus"] said "I am he ..." he was not implying that he was his Father Yahweh ["God"] "Who art in heaven" {A.K.J.V.}. When anyone says "I am he." they are giving reference to themselves, not to another.

        Before Abraham was, I am?
