    Albany is the fourth oldest city and second oldest capital in the United States. Its location near the Hudson River and Erie Canal made it a center of transportation. Being the capital of New York, it is full of cultural events and historical sites. Here are 5 great things to do while there.

    New York State Museum – This museum explores the history of New York. It features both permanent and changing displays and exhibits of the cultural and natural history of the state.
    Lark Street Neighborhood – This historic neighborhood was built with brownstones and other architecture. In recent years, it has been revitalized and filled with boutiques, shops and ethnic restaurants.
    Empire State Plaza – This is one of the most one of the most stunning capitals in the U.S. It is a collection of 10 building and occupies 98 acres. It was the vision of Nelson A. Rockefeller for whom the plaza is named. It is a cultural center hosting festivals, concerts, ice skating and other events.
    Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception - This Cathedral is a beautiful example of neo Gothic structure in the country. Overlooking the Hudson River, people from around the world have crossed its threshold. It is also one of the great church structures of North America.
    USS Slater DE-766-DEHM – This World War II historic naval ship has been fully restored. It is a wonderful time capsule of 1940's life for the sailors who sailed on here. The tour highlights the technology, lifestyle and conditions of the time.
