What Were Dean Martin's Connection With The Mafia?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

His connection with the mafia was that in his early years as a struggling singer the mafia bosses would get him some more shows. And in return for this Dean would sing at the shows organized by the mafia bosses. A simple "you scratch your back and I scratch yours" kind of arrangement.

However he was never involved in crime, he used to do the mafias some small favors which were of very little or no nuisance to him. It is said that the police had picked up reports of some mafia boss planning to kill Dean Martin because of his lack of appreciation for what the mob had done for him.

His contemporary Sinatra is supposed to have had his share of Mafia connections as well. Unlike Dean he even had the book by Mario Puzo the Godfather draw an analogy of his connections with the friends of the friends.

After all that I have read about Martin, what Mustaine writes here seems to have been only the tip of the iceberg. Other sources say that Martin had to obey when the mafia ordered him to sing here and there. One story says that Martin, Sinatra and the black jew Sammy Davis jr. were carrying mafia money into the bedroom of JFK while the president would amuse himself with the girls that the mafia did provide to him. But this was over when Kennedy tried to get away from this, his vile vice president LBJ would not tolerate this. On one occasion Martin allegedly said that if someone would throw a bomb into the hall of Atlantic city where he was performing, it would wipe out organized crime. Another rumour has it that the FBI regularly visited those concerts to take a look at all the mobsters who were there.
