    Electronic Commerce is mainly used as a marketplace on the Internet. Electronic Commerce comprises mainly of allocating, trading, selling, marketing and servicing of goods or services over a particular electronic system like the internet or other computer systems.

    Electronic commerce characteristically applies electronic communications technology of the World Wide Web, at certain point in the transaction's lifecycle, though electronic commerce often depends on computer technologies apart from the World Wide Web, like a database and supplementary non-computer technologies. According to "Person Halls" book, E-commerce was started in the year 1994.

    The meaning of the expression "electronic commerce" has developed over the least thirty years. During the dot com era, it started to contain activities more accurately termed as "Web Commerce", the buying of merchandise as well as services via the World Wide Web.
